It comes from an Amazonian fruit, Genipa americana. You apply it, leave it on, rinse. And then, be patient: the colour takes 24 to 48 h to develop, it is almost invisible at first and many girls panic for nothing. After that it lasts 7 to 15 days.

Why not "black henna"?

Because black henna is not henna. It is PPD, a chemical hair dye. Every summer I see the same photos of burnt arms and scars that stay for years. Jagua is plant-based. The black is just as beautiful, without the risk.

Your questions

What is jagua?

A natural dye taken from the fruit of an Amazonian tree. Nothing more. You apply it as a gel or with a cone, it leaves a blue-black design on the skin, and it fades by itself in one to two weeks.

Is it dangerous?

No. Nothing like black henna with PPD: jagua is plant-based. Still do a patch test on a small area 24 h beforehand, as with anything that touches your skin. Rare allergies to genipin exist, and if you react to fruits from this family, avoid it. Everything is detailed in my guide: jagua duration, aftercare and risks.

How long does it last?

Between 7 and 15 days. It depends mostly on where you put it. Forearm and shoulder: 12 to 15 days. Thighs, hips: 10 to 12. Hands are the worst, 5 to 8 days, because we wash them twenty times a day. The zone-by-zone detail is here.

Henna or jagua?

The colour is what changes. Henna leans towards orange and red-brown. Jagua gives blue-black, a real tattoo look. Both are natural, both fade away, and they are applied the same way. The full comparison: jagua or henna, which to choose.

How do I store it?

Cold. In the fridge, in the coldest part, if you will finish it within 2 to 3 months. In the freezer if you are looking further ahead: it keeps for a year. My full method is here.
